We weren’t thrilled with this year’s class pictures, so we did our own.

Emma was sitting in a chair with her
Golden Book of Children’s Hymns the other day…

Emma at the Zilker Kite Festival today

Some HDR and B&W goodness. Or badness, depending on your point of view.

Emma with her kite

Nothing fancy here. Just a little boost to the saturation and some judicious cropping.

She likes to take books to bed to “read.” Well, tonight she fell asleep while “reading” her book, “Hand, Hand, Fingers, ZZZzzzzzzzzzz”

We’re having lots of good fun that is funny.
Or maybe just reading a bedtime story.

While in Chicago, they put statues of bulls (cows, Margaret’s informed me) painted by artists on the street corners, in Austin, “the live music capital of the world,” they put guitars, similarly festooned, on the streets. Here’s Emma, rather too tired to put up with daddy’s request for a photograph, or mommy’s request to play the guitar. (Click on thumbnail to see a larger view.)

“Emma, are you tired?”

“No, I’m not tired.”

“Emma, do you want your duck?”

“No. I don’t want my duck.”

And yet…

I Go Swimming
Peter Gabriel

Ooh, I go swimming, swimming in the water
Swimming in the river, swimming in the sea
I go swimming
I go swimming, swimming in the water
Swimming in the pool, swimming is cool
I go swimming

The sun is burning, I am yearning
For the waterflow (waterflow)
Next to my skin I, like to begin a
Waterflow (waterflow)
Letting off steam I float in a dream,
I can’t let go (can’t let go)
Follow my wishes, follow the fishes
Down below (down below)
I go swimming

I need water, water to drink
Water on my brain, water sustain,
Water over me
I want water, water I need
Water to think, water to drink
Water over me

The sun is burning, I am yearning
For the waterflow (waterflow)
Next to my skin I, like to begin a
Waterflow (waterflow)
Letting off steam I float in a dream,
I can’t let go (can’t let go)
Follow my wishes, follow the fishes

I go swimming, I go swimming
Swimming in water, swimming in water, swimming in water
Water all over me
Swimming in water, swimming in water, swimming in water
I go swimming, I go swimming
I go swimming, I go swimming
Swimming, I go swimming
Oh I go swimming, I go swimming
Water all over me
Swimming in water, swimming in water, swimming in water
Water all over me
Swimming in water, swimming in water, swimming in water
Water all over me
Swimming in water, swimming in water, swimming in water

If you look carefully, you can almost see her cast.

Bluebonnets-2007.jpg

bwue_cast.jpg

Who knew? Here she is with her blue cast. She picked the color herself, pretty definitively, which was cute and sweet and a little surprising. She’s becoming her own person.

On the other hand, with her natural reticence, low muscle tone and gravitational insecurity, the cast is making it difficult for her to walk. She did pretty well at PT today, though.

This is a new thing I’m trying out - High Dynamic Range photos.
Yeah, this isn’t exactly photorealistic, and it’s kinda noisy…
But I still kinda like the way it turned out.
Say - got a recommendation for a good noise reduction plugin?

She picked up the fence from her “Little People” play sets, stuck it in her mouth, and said “You play saxophone like Charlie Parker.”

It makes a dad so proud! Where does she get these ideas? From a cute little board book, “Charlie Parker Parker Played Be-Bop” [Amazon.com - though I don't think this is the board book version].

A little while later, we chatted about Charlie Parker, jazz, and be-bop. I’m not sure she quite understood.

This is in the Arboretum courtyard (an outdoor shopping center/office complex) near us.
We had ice cream and Emma played.

This picture is for this week.
Central Market Playdate. Four dads made it out.

This is actually for last week. It was taken on Saturday the 20th, at Pflugerville’s “Deutschen Fest.”
She really went to town on the corn on a cob.

From an impromptu photo shoot we tried on the back porch.
Might have gone even better if she’d stood still for more than eight seconds.

Taken in our backyard.

Visions of Sugarplums?

These are from our trip, today, to Sea World in San Antonio…

3:22 - I’m always happy when it’s time to get up!

3:38 - Oh, brother. It’s this thing again. What do I do with it, exactly?

3:38 - Hmmmm…. Yeah. I got nothin’.

3:40 - Drinking my juice.

3:41 - Yeah, still drinking my juice.

3:41 - Yo! Still drinking my juice over here!

3:50 - I don’t think that toy is supposed to be hanging from my chair!

5:12 - Feet are great to hold onto!

5:15 - Everybody’s doin’ the locomotion. Except me…

6:29 - Sometimes, a girl is just too tired to even eat.
